Our day began with a train ride of course that was quite pleasant. The ride to Stuttgart, Germany included sight seeing out the window of lovely architecture, listening to explosions in the sky on my ipod, and reading my book.
Stuttgart was an interesting city, many museums, large beautiful parks, and tons of fun people to people watch! We first walked through a park and found a very interesting live band playing a few Elvis covers and some extremely interesting individuals line dancing to the live
bands music.
After the park we explored the city a bit more and found a great museum that was all about the history of Germany as well as an interactive section for current events in Germany. It was one of the more interesting museums that I have been to in a long time. One thing that caught my attention was the issue of the separation between church and state here in Germany; there really isn't any separation at all, in fact they teach religion in public schools. Another thing that was memorable is that France and Germany have sister cities, I think it was supposed to create unity since the two countries have had so much trouble throughout history.
The day ended on the train as you might have guessed. The first train that we got on was so full that we had to walk from car to car until finally finding seats. Then, on the second train we got onto a car that was totally empty. Then we realized why it was an empty car, there was vomit on the floor. Becca and I were trapped on a smelly train car with vomit stink filling the air. Good thing the ride was only 15 minutes or so.
Here are a few things that I have noticed about Europe so far. Firstly, I do not like paying for the WC (restroom). I don't get it, perhaps I will do some research to figure out why they do this. One thing that I noticed is the people here dress a bit better than people in the US. I can generally tell a tourist from a European just by the clothing that they wear. Another thing that I love about Europe is the kids; the other day a little boy was flirting with Becca on the train and then today we saw the cutest little girl who was picking up leaves off the ground and then putting them in another spot. so cute.
Anyway. I love Germany. Tomorrow we will be leaving for Munich and Oktoberfest. We will be leaving the computer so we will be depending on Internet cafes. My posting might be less frequent.
But who's Bruno?? How are your feet?! The sunflowers are dying but the sun is shining. Bed, still outrageously comfortable. Me, missing you and thinking of you often often often.
ReplyDeleteBruno is just an imaginary character that Becc and I like to talk about. Its silly really. I am so glad that the bed is lovely. I am missing you as well. oh! and guess what! I saw a poster here for joshua Radin! He is playing here soon. I put it on FB, ask B to show you. I took the photo just for you. Love you always and think of you daily.
ReplyDeleteI read your vomit story outloud. MMMMMMM yum! Oktoberfest! Tell me if the keyboards are different at the internet cafes, because they were different in Paris and I (being a nerd) enjoyed the challenge of it! I love you! Drink a lot of good German beer for me!
